I feel sorry for Ray and Beverly. Recent reports show that many Pirtek locations have closed or have been taken over by the Franchiser. Recently, as many as six Pirtek Franchises have filed bankruptcy. Except in very few cases, Pirtek Franchises do not make a profit in this country.
There are currently about 36 locations. Of those, as many as eight are company owned. Of the remaining 28 only five are profitable beyond a low paying job, most are on the verge of bankruptcy. I could list all the Pirtek locations with problems, but here are some that come to mind. Recently, Paul Bowes closed his location in Clearwater, Fl. He worked for PirtekUSA as the training manager for 4 years, yet he failed miserably. The Pirtek franchisee in Commerce Ca. just walked away from his $750,000 per year business because there was basically no net income after the bills were paid. The Pirtek Franchise in Jacksonville, Fl has been operating at a loss for the past two years. David Johnson, Pirtek Franchisee in Plano Tx. reported sales of $700,000 per year but he just filed bankruptcy. The reason all these Pirtek Franchisees close the doors is because there is not an adequate margin and sales are low because there is nothing special about Pirtek, or its service or its products. Product costs to franchisees are priced well above the market price. This is just the numbers side of this onerous business. There are situations created by this poor business that make people to things they might not normally do. At least one manager committed suicide due to job stress. Divorce is common enough, the odds go up if you buy a Pirtek. Employee injuries are common and result in expensive rates for all franchisees. One Van driver robbed two banks while at work and used the Pirtek Van as the get-away car. One technician was crushed by a small mini-dozer. He was given CPR at the site and air lifted to the hospital, he sustained severe upper body injuries. The bottom line is that Pirtek tries to sell a poorly conceived business model that does not work in the USA. In more than 14 years at franchising PirtekUSA has only managed to sell a very small number of franchises despite their over-ambitious growth plans, and a $500,000 per year advertising budget. If you research Pirtek carefully you will come to the same, very real, conclusion that almost everyone else has: Pirtek, it should be called Poortek. Just ask Bobby Moore, or Dick Wilcox, or Irwin Zeatz, or Paul Gorney, or Mike Whitehead, or Bruce Farrer, or Paul Porcelli, or Monte Kramer, or Scott McGee or Kurt Braaten, all of them past Pirtek franchisees or employees.
